HEALTH PROVIDERS

The lack of respect for patient confidentiality in my case by several health workers in my locality is very concerning.  This includes a medical professional who made repeated breaches and an administrative worker employed by the local health authority, as well as two administrative workers employed by a private health care provider on contract to the local health authority.  (As previously stated, counselling notes were also deleted from my medical notes by another administrative worker when I asked for a copy of them.)

I believe that the latest breach of patient confidentiality was raised with the health authority.  Unsurprisingly, I have not been asked by them for details of this.  Therefore, the version related by the administrative worker appears to have been believed as no further action seems to have been taken.

I am not sure that correct procedures are therefore followed by this health authority.

I hope that firm action has been taken to prevent future breaches of patient confidentiality.  Although in my own case I believe that generally I have received good health care, I am concerned that my local health authority has not respected medical information as it should.  Because of this, a health symptom I have will now have to be investigated once I have moved out of the area.

Finally, I understand that improvements have been made to the conditions of one group of staff who were being targeted for raising concerns about patient care and am very glad about this.

LOCAL PUBLIC SERVICES

There are certain aspects of public services in the area I live in which cause me concern:

Firstly, as I have detailed in earlier posts my former employer behaved in a cavalier way towards me.  I was of course bullied and then had no alternative but to leave the job I had done to my employer’s satisfaction for over 12 years.

WARNING ON “PATIENT CONFIDENTIALITY”

If you are planning to have treatment in a private hospital, I would strongly advise that you question the staff closely about what guarantees will be given on patient confidentiality.  This applies whether you are going to be a private patient or are an NHS patient due to receive treatment in a private hospital.  If you are going to be a paying patient then consider getting legal advice on making patient confidentiality a term of your contract with the private hospital.

BREACH OF CONFIDENTIALITY – UPDATE 2

I complained to the healthcare provider which is currently contracted to perform certain NHS operations about the breach of confidentiality.  Below is part of the reply I received:

” . . . I can confirm that no one at [. . . . .] has ever had access to any of your counselling notes.  The medical records we have are only in relation to the consultation and treatment for your foot.  . . . We hold a tracker of any NHS notes requested from [NHS healthcare provider’s name] and this demonstrates that your NHS notes have never been ordered from them.”

BREACH OF CONFIDENTIALITY – UPDATE

Following the breach of patient confidentiality by the healthcare provider which I mentioned in my previous post, I wrote to the local manager.  I wanted to resolve the issue quickly and quietly in a way which would not jeopardise people’s jobs or patient care.

BREACHES OF CONFIDENTIALITY

The small town I live in is rife with (exaggerated) gossip.  Although local people know this, newcomers to the area may not initially realise that personal, confidential matters they discuss with work colleagues (some of whom should not be hearing about them) could well spread quickly around the town.

BREACHES OF TRUST AND CONFIDENTIALITY

Although I doubt that my previous employer would be a fan of my blog, I feel that writing it helps me and others who may be going through a similar experience.  It has also rekindled my love of writing, so I will continue in my own unassuming way to try to entertain and inform my readers about aspects of my experience in this particular organisation.

THE PSYCHOLOGICAL CONTRACT

When I resigned from the civil service I had (and still have) a strong sense of injustice at the way I had been treated, and this is what led me to write my blog.  Not only does it help me to make some sort of sense of what happened, but I hope that in some small way I can help others going through similar experiences.

Today I would like to have a look at the relationship between management and employees, which is of major importance in any organisation in relation to employee morale and productivity .

WORKPLACE BULLYING: WHAT HAPPENED

This is my experience of being bullied and how it can affect your life.  This is for people who have been bullied in the past and may recognise aspects of my experience – and those who may be bullied in the future.

In 2010 I was working for a government agency by which I had been employed for 10 years.  It is based in a small English seaside town and is part of a large government department.  I am a single woman with an adult son.  I enjoyed a social life and dated but was not in a long term relationship.  I went out 3 times with a man I had known casually for about 2 years.  He ended the relationship which I accepted without any difficulty as I had begun to hear rumours of lies of a sexual nature that he had been spreading about me.  I had asked him on several occasions not to talk about me as I am very private.  As soon as he had ended the relationship he wanted to resume it, but I had by now realised he had truthfulness issues so was not interested.  With hindsight I could have handled this better with him but I was very upset at the lies.  He had previously told me he suffered from depression and he seemed to be an attention-seeker.  He then began a 5 year hate campaign, spreading rumours about me, which continues to this day.
